Documenting Arkansas: The Civil War 1861-1865  This 138-page, full-color, softcover book contains over 200 documents from 80 different collections at the State Archives. For over a century, the Arkansas State Archives has actively collected materials from this crucial era of our state's and nation's history: diaries and letters written by soldiers and citizens; military orders; newspaper accounts; photographs; and broadsides that recount the day-to-day lives of people caught up in the most significant event in 19th century America. Traveled through a Fine Country: The Journal of Captain Henry Brockman
Captain Henry Brockman served in Company K, 10th Missouri Volunteer Infantry, Confederate Army during the Civil War. In his journal, he describes in detail his daily activities, the many places he visited and the things he saw during his time in the military. As Brockman "traveled through a fine country," his tour of duty took him to major battles in Arkansas and Louisiana, including stops at Jacksonport, Pocahontas, Yellville, Des Arc, Helena, Little Rock, Benton, Arkadelphia, Warren, Camden and Shreveport. For over 100 years, the Arkansas State Archives has preserved Brockman's writings. The captain's journal has been meticulously transcribed and is now published and available in book format.
